That was my husband's reaction to me finally, finally, finally finishing the critical introduction to my dissertation, and he's right. It took me forever.
I know you are tired of hearing me whine about it--I'm tired of whining about it--but it is done. I felt done with it before I even started as it was my third complete scrap and rewrite of it and every sentence felt like it took a month to write, but eventually, I just had to tell myself--no Facebook, Twitter, or blog posts allowed until this thing was done. I had to chain my butt down and write it comps-style (as in writing the answers to my comprehensive exam questions over the course of 72 hours and not thinking of anything else until it was done).
In the end, although the introduction is still shorter than I wanted it to be, but I believe it meets the requirements and could easily be turned into an article or conference paper down the road, so I'm satisfied. Now, I'm going to cross my fingers that the committee feels the same way :)
Speaking of which, I might just be able to schedule my dissertation defense today! I am just waiting to hear back from one other person to see if the proposed date and time works, then we will be set!
In other news, there's a lot going on on the publication front. Rougarou was kind enough to publish my poem, "Homing Pigeons," and storySouth took one of my stories, "Tongues," for their Spring 2013 issue. "Tongues" has been out on submission for a while, getting lots of great feedback, but in the end, not getting accepted to a lot of places, because of the violent nature of the story, so I am glad the editors of storySouth decided to take chance on it and give it a home. I'll post a link when it is up, but it will probably be a few weeks to a few months yet.
Nothing new on the agent front. I know some of you are on pins and needles just as I am, but I'm making myself be patient. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything!
Meanwhile, I'm going to jump straight into these AWP panel papers. I've got two to write with roughly a month and a few days until the conference, so I have to get cracking. I won't let so much time go by before I write another post, though. Let know what you are all up to, though! I missed hearing from you this past week!
