I apologize for my absence here lately. When you have family over, other things like blogging tend to get lost by the wayside :)
We've had a lovely few days, though. We picked Grandma up at the airport Sunday morning and since then, have been having a great time visiting and catching up. She really is a hilarious woman, and it was fun to see her bring a smile to everyone's face whether she knew them or not. When I would drive her around and she would see one of those people dressed up in a costume waving a sign outside one of those tax places or cash for gold places, she would roll down her window and wave and they would stop for minute, then light up as they waved back to her. Eventually, I called them her "friends" and would point them out as we drove past and she would get all excited and wave at them again.
She made friends with everyone--the leafblowers on campus when she came with me to office hours, shoppers in Walmart, a lady at CVS, the cashier at Kohls...
She brings so much joy to people, and it's sad the way she's treated by the people she's been living with lately. She was so startled when my husband and I hugged her goodnight before bed every night, and I don't think I realized exactly how much of an effect some past events lately have had on her until then.
I can't reveal too much quite yet, but she is going to be permanently free soon. She'll be safe, and she'll be loved again as she has loved so many others in her life.

And now she, and you, have made me happy with this news!! Wahooooo!
ReplyDeleteIt will be a much happier day when she is free for good from that house. Some loose ends for her to tie up, but the time is close :)
